Our BIG one month old boy!

Owen was ONE month old on Friday! Wow. Hard to believe. Im not even going to say time is flying by because thats pretty obvious! All is going very well. Owen is a big, huge eating machine!! He eats all the time and his weight is showing it. At one month old he is 11 pounds 2 oz and 21 inches long! Get this- BIGGER than Hannah was at one month and he weighed less than her at birth. Crazy! He is just a sweet sweet baby boy and we are just so happy!
At one month old he is waking up a little more through the day and looking around and observing more. He is noticing his hands and trying to do something with them. One month olds dont do a whole lot :) He is sleeping pretty good- we got a 4.5 hour stretch the other night and that felt great. He goes about 3 hours between feedings during the night so if we get anything more than that then I feel like a new person! But we still dont have a routine and Im definitely not one to try and force a newborn into some sort of crazy routine by telling him when he's going to eat. We let him eat and sleep when he wants. Thats what they do!! Most nights we get to bed about 10. I try to feed him around 9:30 and hope we are all asleep by 10. He usually wakes up a little after 1 but if we can make it until 2, then I feel like a new person! He still spits up a whole lot but obviously its not affecting his weight. He's not a big fan of the paci as compared to his paci LOVING sister :) Maybe he'll find his hands. But he'll take it every once and a while. He's not a fan of being swaddled either- he was at first but not anymore. And he is a little higher maintenance when it comes to going to sleep. He likes to be held to fall asleep- right there on my chest. All cozy and warm. Hannah would fall asleep pretty quickly in a bouncy seat, or anywhere for that matter. But Owen just loves to be cuddled. I dont mind all the cuddling Ive been doing lately, its just a little more challenging with a two year old running around! But Ill take it whenever I can get it!! Overall our little man is just plain amazing and we couldnt love him more. We absolutely love having another child to love and we love watching Hannah as a big sister. She cares so much about him, if he has spit up, if he needs a paci or a blankie. If he sneezes you'll hear from wherever she is, "Bless you Owen". Its so sweet. She is very protective of him when I take him into daycare with us. All the other kids want to see him and crowd around his carseat and she always gets right in the middle to show them who the big sister is :) I love watching their relationship grow...its only going to get better!! We are looking forward to what month 2 will bring!!
There are nights that are so chaotic we arent quite sure what we are doing but then there are those moments that make you never think twice about filling your house with children. They are the most amazing gifts!

poor little guy is losing his hair...not that he had too much of it to begin with :)
Happy One Month sweet Boy! We had no idea we could love two little people so much!!!

stitches

It was only a matter of time before we headed to the ER for some sort of injury...it just happened sooner than I thought! and I definitely didnt think it would be Hannah before Owen. We were just sitting around on Thursday night playing with Hannah (she was in a wild mood!) running around, showing us her Hula dance that she learned at school that day (it was Hawaiian Luau week at summer camp). So as Hannah is in this wild mood my mom starts this crazy conversation about Hannah getting stitches sooner than later and how its only a matter of time. Literally, seconds later she runs through the family room and falls into her little pink table. The table legs are metal and she hit the bracket just perfectly right above her eye. Of course she started screaming and I just thought it was because it hurt, not because she was bleeding like crazy! Jeremy scooped her up and saw the blood and rushed her to the sink. Thats when he realized she probably needed stitches. Im like NO WAY! I was totally caught off guard and kind of freaked a little. We were running around trying to pack up Owen, stuff for Hannah, and making sure we had a paci and a bunny. Sure enough they thought she needed stitches. I just envisioned Hannah screaming and needles near her eye- awful! But we were at Kosairs so I should have known it would be very kid friendly. They were so amazing. They gave her some motrin, and put some gel on her cut and it numbed it very quickly. Then they gave her some sort of happy juice and in seconds she was a new person. Laughing, rolling around, practically jumping up and down. It was the strangest thing Ive ever seen. Dont get me wrong- her rendition of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star had us laughing hysterically but there was something very weird about seeing a two year old acting like a 21 year old college student. Yikes. Jeremy and I both looked at eachother and agreed she would never be leaving this house :)
After about 20 minutes of that they took her back for stitches. Jeremy went with her and they wrapped her in a sheet, strapped her to a board, put Mickey on the Ipad and stitched her up. She didnt move! Thats pretty amazing- or some really good medicine. She came back in and we were ready to head home. She did so great. And Im pretty sure this is not the first set of stitches! She gets them out on Tuesday and I think Im a little more nervous about that!

sweet baby!!
You can see her bandaid covering her stitches- she has done awesome not messing with them. But everytime she wakes up she points to her head and says, Boo Boo. But she's not in any pain :) and she just LOVES holding her little brother!

a weekend full of animals!

We enjoyed a fun filled family weekend! which included LOTS of animals!! Jeremy was off work Saturday morning which never happens so it was wonderful to say the least. There wasnt much rest this weekend- we spent the time entertaining our very busy two year old. Saturday morning was a beautiful morning so we headed to the zoo. It was a gorgeous day and we all had a great time! We came home, made some lunch and put Hannah down for her nap. Jeremy and I crashed on the couch with our sweet little dude sleeping next to us.
crashed on the way home from the zoo in the middle of showing us a picture she colored at school. crazy girl.
After we got up we decided to get out of the house again and take Hannah to feed the ducks at a place nearby that has some beautiful ponds. She is very interested in all animals and loves it even more when she can get close to them. That girl is brave! She would get as close as she could to hissing geese which scared me! She loved tearing the bread into pieces and finding the perfect duck to give it to.  We came home and grilled out some delicious burgers- a recipe I found on Pinterest is suppose to be a copycat recipe for In n Out burgers (which is the best burger ever made) and they were pretty darn good!! We got Hannah down for the night and crashed early ourselves. Owen is having some reflux issues and has been a little fussy while he is eating and usually after his 4 or 5 am feeding he has a hard time going back to sleep. Makes for a tired momma!

this girl LOVES her daddy!!
Sunday I got breakfast in bed from two of my favorite people :) Hannah ate most of my french toast but thats what its all about! We got ready and headed to Henry's Ark. Its kind of random but if your kids love animals its worth the trip and getting a little dirty. Its out in Prospect and is a free farm to visit that is filled with all kinds animals. We took a box of crackers and fed ducks, deer, zebras, goats, pigs, llamas, camels and even a huge elk! Jeremy said he though I had the most fun. ha ha! Hannah was too nervous to feed some of the bigger animals but that girl LOVES ducks. She would get so close that even Jeremy and I were a little nervous! We headed to lunch with our little family and all came home and napped. It felt SO good!
I told you it was a weekend FILLED with animals. Im discovering its one of the only things that actually keeps her attention. She wont sit for a movie, the splash park isnt really her cup of tea but she sure does love animals!

she was braver than me!

I cant say that Ive really ever seen a peacock fan out its feathers like this. what a beautiful sight!!
even Owen got in on the action!
Hannah's favorite book is "Llama Llama Red Pajamas" so it was only fitting that we take a picture with the Llamas. Weirdest looking animals!
